When Android Auto is active it should automatically read you your texts as they arrive.
Is it not doing that? My Lumia recently bit the dust and I also missed this feature. It can be set up to announce the Message sender and ask if you want to read it. It can also be configured to allow you to reply.
It took a little work to set it up because with Cortana, it just worked, and there were a few options that had to be checked. Fortunately, the developer has a "Test Reading" button that can be used to verify that it is working.
It can also be setup to announce other notifications also. This morning it read my Cortana "Get Ready for the Day" to me. Similar Threads Over one million Honor 9 sold in 28 days! I don't think has ever been something able to be done native from the Samsung devices. I've never had my text messages read out loud to me, but I know you can setup Google Assistant to read these out. Maybe my memory is flawed when it comes to my Galaxy S4, but I swear it used to do this for me.
Even if not, I find it hard to believe that my Windows phones had a feature that my shiny new S8 does not. I've known the Windows devices did this. It's possible your S4 did, I've only had Note models myself. I know there's apps out there that does this, finding the right one is a different story though.
I've been trying to work with Car Mode personally on my own device, but it never read messages out loud. I would have to ask Google to read recent texts, etc etc. Originally Posted by andy Battling with this now in my accord, did you ever find a solution? Same problem on my car Mercedes since yesterday - August Does not read texts on my phone anymore.
All of a sudden - out of the blue - I haven't changed a thing. It shouldn't be a Civic problem I haven't upgraded software in my Civic, but I have on my classic. This is beyond frustrating.
Not only that, but when my phone connects to my car via bluetooth I still use it for music and GPS audio , texting often freezes on my Classic for about 10 mins. Damn this is annoying. If anyone finds a solution, please post it here. Originally Posted by 2clever.

I believe this began after my BlackBerry updated to It worked fine for weeks. In fact I went through two Priv's and they both worked fine from day 1. Now, all of a sudden, I get the dreadded error message about phone not being compatible.
It is friendly and flexible, isn't it? When text messages come in, the system reads them to me and I can reply by voice. Have you tried Android Auto in your vehicles? It's possible your S4 did, I've only had Note models myself. Any ideas what I can do to get this working?
I went through all of the steps to unpair and start again. The car is going as far as showing me a new message indicator, but I get the error message when I try to access it. And yes, I've been through all of the settings to allow messaging through bluetooth.
